How To Play

Instructions:

A train is a string of letters. For example, this is a train:

🚘 B O A T

The little engine leads the way, and each letter behind it is a CAR — reading from the engine back.

Type a word (1-9 letters, A-Z) and the game scrambles its letters among the freight cars on the layout, along with some random decoys. Couple up the cars that spell your word, in order, and haul them to the CHECK STATION at the top before the clock beats you.

  • F — forward
  • R — reverse
  • S then 1-5 — throw a switch
  • C then 0-9 — couple that many MORE cars onto the end of your train. Back into loose cars to couple them on.
  • D then 0-9 — decouple that many cars from the end of your train, instantly, right where they sit.
  • any other key — stop

Watch out: ramming a car with the front of the engine, running into a closed switch, or driving off the end of a siding all end the game in a derailment. You can't couple onto the front — only by backing into cars.

Careful near switches: a switch won't open or close if a car is sitting on it or right next to it — move your cars clear of a switch first if it won't throw.

Stop with your whole train sitting inside the Check Station and it's automatically inspected. Get the cars right, in the right order, and your time is recorded.

Type A Word

1 to 9 letters, A–Z only. This word becomes the train you must build.

Beginners: try 3 letters. Experts: up to 9.
