Boy, the leaves were at peak on the North Shore, and they were among the most vivid that I can remember!

Bethany and I spent this last weekend on the North Shore, and we had a specific challenge…to stop at only NEW locations that we’ve never been to before!

Our stops included the Swinging Bridge in Jay Cooke State Park near Carlton, the Two Harbors Light Station, Flood Bay State Wayside in Two Harbors, Beaver Bay Wayside near Silver Bay, Ray Berglund State Wayside in Tofte, Father Baraga’s Cross Historical Marker in Schroeder, and finally Cross River Falls in Schroeder.

With Highway 61 connecting our way between all the stops, there was never a curve or corner without a bursting amount of color.

I do have to admit, we cheated on two stops. An early Saturday morning breakfast donut at Johnson’s Bakery & Coffee Shop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Duluth (the closest thing to the old Dusek’s Bakery in Faribault I’ve ever found), and our longtime favorite North Shore restaurant Bellisio’s, where Bethany and I have been stopping at several times a year for at least the past 15 years. It’s always important to keep traditions alive!
